4 tomatoes

butter

salt and freshly ground black pepper

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas mark5.

  2. Remove stalks from tomatoes. Using a sharp knife cut a shallow cross in the rounded end of each tomato.

  3. Brush with a little melted butter and season with salt and pepper.

  4. Put tomatoes into a roasting tin and bake for about 10 minutes, until soft but not out of shape.
